Jessica Mahon is the author of the children’s book, Joel Meets the Paramedics. She is a paramedic by day and night and a novelist sometime in between. While out on maternity leave in 2020, Jessica began writing a story that could show the world of paramedicine to children. She made it into a book with her friend, the very talented artist Lindsay Maiorano. Since then, she has been dreaming up the Joel Meets series and wants to show the different careers of public safety and healthcare to children.
Jessica grew up in Pennsylvania and used to hide in the school library writing stories all day. In her fifth grade yearbook, her teacher wrote that he would see her name on a book one day. Jessica has two published poems, wrote a novel in high school and has kind of been writing ever since. She won the Kiwanis award for the first quarter of 2021 for "Joel Meets the Paramedics," was a finalist in the 2018 Fountain Essay Contest for creative nonfiction and somehow became a paramedic along the way.
In theory, she’s writing her next children's book or attempting to finish one of the many novels started on her computer. In reality, she’s probably reading books to her daughters or trying to take a nap.
